February Meeting, Orion Library, CWRC, MDP

Our next meeting will be Thursday, February 26th, 7 PM at the Orion Twp Public Library, 825 Joslyn Rd, Lake Orion, MI

At this meeting, we will be organizing committee structure and deciding on projects for the upcoming year. Please come and contribute!

We also hope to see Dan Keifer from the Clinton River Watershed Council (CWRC) to speak to our group about current Great Lakes policy initiatives.

The Michigan Democratic Party State Convention is Saturday, February 21, from 8 AM to 5 PM at Cobo Hall in Detroit.

North Oakland Democratic Club (NODC) January 2009 Events and Meetings:

– An Obama/Biden Inaugural parties planned for Tuesday, January 20th from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM in downtown Clarkston, please contact for details. There is a limit to the number of attendees who can attend these two parties so you need to RSVP.

– If you are going to Washington DC, there is a Michigan Inaugural Ball at the American History Museum of the Smithsonian. Tickets to this black tie event are $200 each. Call 703-288-8696 or email for information.

– Congratulations to John Dickie of Ortonville who received inaugural tickets from the office of Congressman Mike Rogers and will be in attending the Inauguration!

– On January 31th (Orion Library), we will hold elections for NODC club officers (Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary) and nine (9) Executive Committee members. You must be a member in good standing of the North Oakland Democratic Club to vote or be elected. If you are interested in being an Officer or a member of the Executive Committee, please contact Tracy Jensen via

– At our meetings there will also be a short discussion on the writing of resolutions, in preparation for our Oakland 8th District Convention on February 7 from 10 – Noon (Registration is at 9 AM). The Oakland-8th Convention will be held in the Pernick/Aaron Conference Room of the Oakland County Commissioners Auditorium building, 1200 N. Telegraph Rd, Pontiac MI. You must be a member of the Michigan Democratic Party as of January 8th (30 days prior) to vote in Feb. 7th convention. Precinct Delegates, 2008 ballot candidates, and currently serving elected officials in Oakland County can renew their MDP membership anytime prior to the start of the convention.

To vote at the February 21st State Convention (Cobo Hall), you must be an MDP member as of January 22nd (except for Precinct Delegates, etc.)

Still time to become a Precinct Delegate

Delegates are elected in the 2008 primary election on Tuesday August 5th, and then serve for two years.

When you vote in the Primary on August 5th, be sure to mark the front and the back of the ballot, including for Democratic Precinct Delegates.

There is still time to help get the whole ticket elected by filing as a Write-In candidate. They must file with their local township Clerk before 4PM on Friday August 1.

First, you might want to check to see if people are already on the ballot for Precinct Delegate:

To be eligible for election as a Precinct Delegate, you must have lived in the precinct you are seeking to represent as Delegate for at least 30 days preceding the August 5 primary election.

The primary role of a Precinct Delegate is to vote at County, Congressional District, and State Conventions, however Precinct Delegates can also coordinate volunteers to help with voter identification in their precincts.

Precinct Delegates vote at the County Party, Congressional District and State Party Conventions.

Precinct Delegates elect Democratic Party leaders and support the Democratic Party.

The filing deadline to be on the August 5th Primary Ballot as a Precinct Delegate Candidate is Tuesday May 13th (4 PM), but don’t wait! Download the form, complete the form, and turn it in to your local or county clerk. Your signature must be Notarized when you sign it. Check with your Township Clerk to see if they can Notarize it for you.
