Our guest speakers are Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper, Michigan Attorney General candidate Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton, who will discuss his campaign,  and Kande Ngalamulume (pronounced KON-dee GAH-Lah-mou-lou-may) who is the Democratic candidate for Congress, 8th Congressional District. You won’t want to miss this meeting!

Now is the time to Join or renew your membership in the North Oakland Democratic Club for 2010!  Membership dues is used to pay club event fees, postage, and supplies. Your membership is very important to the success of our club. 2010 will be a big year for our club, and we need your support!

We will be collecting donations of canned or boxed food for North Oakland food banks. Bring canned or dry goods suitable for food banks.

Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper will discuss current activities of the Prosecutor’s Office since January of this year.

Oakland County Democratic Party (OCDP) Chair Michael McGuinness will discuss activities of the County Party.

Janis Ripple, will provide a brief review of the Oakland County Democratic Party Healthcare Platform and Advocacy campaign for repealing Michigan’s Drug Industry Immunity laws.

Candidate for Oakland County Prosecutor, Judge Jessica Cooper sat 22 years as a judge, first on the 46th District Court and then on the Oakland County Circuit Court. She also served six years on the Michigan Court of Appeals before retiring in 2007 to form an arbitration firm

Candidate for Oakland County Sheriff, Jane Boudreau has been in Law Enforcement for 23 years, having worked for the Pontiac Police Department, Oakland County Sheriff, and the Village of Holly.

Brenda Lawrence is Mayor of the City of Southfield, and a candidate for Oakland County Executive.

Thursday April 24th, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM – Guest Speaker Lt. Gov. John Cherry
Prior to his election to the office of Lieutenant Governor in 2002 and 2006, John Cherry had been a member of the Michigan Legislature as a State Representative (1983-1986), State Senator (1987-2002) and Senate Minority Leader. In his current position, Cherry presides over the State Senate, casting votes there in the event of a tie. His sister, Deborah Cherry, now holds his senate seat.

John Cherry chairs the Lt. Governor’s Commission on Higher Education & Economic Growth, with the commission making recommendations on higher education and the need to expand and retain Michigan’s job base. He also serves as a gubernatorial appointee to the Midwestern Higher Education Compact and the Great Lakes Commission.

John D. Cherry was elected chairman of the National Lieutenant Governor’s Association (NLGA) during the organization’s annual meeting in Seattle, Washington, July 19, 2006.

Lt. Gov. Cherry is married to Pamela M. Faris. They have two adult children, Meghan and John Daniel, and one grandchild.
