Our guest speakers are Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper, Michigan Attorney General candidate Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton, who will discuss his campaign,  and Kande Ngalamulume (pronounced KON-dee GAH-Lah-mou-lou-may) who is the Democratic candidate for Congress, 8th Congressional District. Organizing for America is currently organizing a state-wide canvass throughout Michigan in order to collect health care declarations affirming the public’s support of President Obama’s agenda. We currently have three teams working throughout Oakland County on Saturday and would love as many volunteers as possible.

In the last 48 hours, the prospects for real, comprehensive health care reform this year have gotten significantly better. On Monday, the President summoned leaders of Congress to the White House to press for his timetable on health care reform. The President’s message: “I just want to put everybody on notice because there was a lot of chatter during the week that I was gone: inaction is not an option.” The message was apparently heard loud and clear. Yesterday, the three chairmen of the House committees with jurisdiction over health care reform formally introduced legislation that does not increase the deficit, would lower premiums, includes a public option, and is estimated to cover 97% of Americans. Then, just this morning, the Senate HELP Committee passed its version of health reform legislation, which also contains a strong public option.

We suggest you park at the end of the Parade route (Clarkston Community Education Center 6558 Waldon Rd at Cherrylawn Ave prior to 9 AM, transportation will be available to the Parade start which is St. Daniel Church 7010 Valley Park Dr (nearest corner is Miller and Holcomb St).

The parade begins at 10 AM and the parade route is about one mile long. The parade will end at 11:30 AM

We are also looking for a parade vehicle.

This parade is lots of fun, we will have banners, flags, and candy, but we need you to make it a success!

Saturday, June 13: 10 AM to Noon – the 8th Congressional District Committee will meet at the Brandon Township Library, 304 South St, Ortonville, MI. Join us as we discuss social networking tools such as Facebook and Twitter and the 2010 election. This meeting rotates between the five counties of in the 8th District, so this is the meeting closest to you!

Wednesday, June 17: our Holly area Meetup, meet State Senate District 15 Candidate Pam Jackson and OCDP Political Director Jason Bauer. 6:00 pm – 7:45 PM, Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at the Holly Township Library, 1116 N Saginaw St, Holly, MI

Thursday, June 18: our Watershed Forum, a panel discussion cosponsored with the Clinton River Watershed Council.
6:30 PM to 8:45 PM, at the Orion Township Library, 825 Joslyn Road, Lake Orion.

Saturday, July 4th: 9 AM to 11 AM – Join us in the 4th of July Parade in Clarkston! Walk a mile in our shoes and support our club. The parade is a lot of fun. Help us hand out candy to kids along the one mile parade route. After the parade, join us at Clintonwood Park in Independence Twp for the annual Festival of Fun.
