NODC June Events – Mark your calenders

There are a number of events which you are invited to, please attend and get to know fellow Democrats in North Oakland County better!

Now is the time to join or renew your membership with the NODC, if you haven’t already.

There are a number of events in Oakland County that may be of interest to you, they are listed farther down in this email.

Saturday, June 13: 10 AM to Noon – the 8th Congressional District Committee will meet at the Brandon Township Library, 304 South St, Ortonville, MI. Join us as we discuss social networking tools such as Facebook and Twitter and the 2010 election. This meeting rotates between the five counties of in the 8th District, so this is the meeting closest to you!

Wednesday, June 17: our Holly area Meetup, meet State Senate District 15 Candidate Pam Jackson and OCDP Political Director Jason Bauer. 6:00 pm – 7:45 PM, Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at the Holly Township Library, 1116 N Saginaw St, Holly, MI

Thursday, June 18: our Watershed Forum, a panel discussion cosponsored with the Clinton River Watershed Council.
6:30 PM to 8:45 PM, at the Orion Township Library, 825 Joslyn Road, Lake Orion.

Saturday, July 4th: 9 AM to 11 AM – Join us in the 4th of July Parade in Clarkston! Walk a mile in our shoes and support our club. The parade is a lot of fun. Help us hand out candy to kids along the one mile parade route. After the parade, join us at Clintonwood Park in Independence Twp for the annual Festival of Fun. Community Conversation with Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper

The next meeting of the North Oakland Democratic Club will be at the Orion Township Library, Thursday May 21, 7 PM. The Orion Library is located at 825 Joslyn Rd, Lake Orion.

Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper will discuss current activities of the Prosecutor’s Office since January of this year.

Oakland County Democratic Party (OCDP) Chair Michael McGuinness will discuss activities of the County Party.

Janis Ripple, will provide a brief review of the Oakland County Democratic Party Healthcare Platform and Advocacy campaign for repealing Michigan’s Drug Industry Immunity laws.

DNC Chairman Governor Howard Dean will be the keynote speaker at the OCDP’s 47th annual Phil Hart dinner Sunday, October 28 at Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington Hills.

The Oakland County Democratic Party today announced that Democratic National Committee Chairman Governor Howard Dean will be the keynote speaker at the OCDP’s 47th annual Phil Hart dinner on Sunday, October 28 at Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington Hills.

The Oakland County Democratic Party today announced that Democratic National Committee Chairman Governor Howard Dean will be the keynote speaker at the OCDP’s 47th annual Phil Hart dinner on Sunday, October 28 at Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington Hills.

As DNC Chair, Governor Dean has been committed to building the grassroots of the Democratic Party and strengthening state and county Democratic Parties through the DNC’s “50 State Strategy.”

“Governor Dean’s commitment to rebuilding our party from the ground up has generated excitement in our party,” said David Woodward, Oakland County Democratic Party Chairman. “We are excited to have national support in our effort to elect Democratic leaders on the local, state and national level.”

Kary Moss, Executive Director ACLU of Michigan, will be honored as the 2007 recipient of OCDP’s highest annual recognition, the Tim Dinan Community Service Award.

Phil Reid and Sandy Burgess will receive the 2007 Precinct Delegate of the Year Awards.

Spike from The Mojo in the Morning Show on Channel 955 will be master of ceremonies.

Jim and Janet Blanchard are honorary chairs.

The dinner is a premier regional event. It honors the late U.S. Senator Phil Hart, admired as “The Conscience of the Senate.” The event helps fund Democratic campaigns in Oakland County and the state of Michigan.

Dinner at 7 p.m. follows 6 p.m. Sponsors and Hundred Club receptions. All events take place at Adat Shalom Synagogue, 29901 Middlebelt Road, Farmington Hills. [Map]

Arts, Beats, and Eats is the premiere event for the Oakland County Democratic Party and we’d like you to join us there this Labor Day Weekend!

DATE:
Labor Day Weekend, August 31- September 3

WHERE:
Our Booth will be in “Art in the Park” section of AB&E. It’s a small park on the West side of Saginaw Street, between Pike and Lawrence Streets. It’s just north of where you come out of the Phoenix parking structure.

WHAT:
We’ll be handing out balloons and literature and winning friends and influencing people by answering questions, gathering information on people’s political views and promoting our candidates and issues. This high visibility event is a top annual venue for the OCDP.

TIME:
We will be working in 4 hour shifts from Friday to Monday.
Friday: 4pm -11pm (4 – 7 and 7 – 11)
Saturday: 11am -11pm (11-3, 3-7, 7-11)
Sunday: 11am – 11pm (11-3, 3-7, 7-11)
Monday: 11am – 8pm (11-3, 3-7, 7-take down)

WHAT TO WEAR:
Blue tops and khaki pants. Hats welcome to ward off the sun. Bring rain gear if it’s threatening showers.
