March 2012 Events

Thurs. March 15, 2012 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm – Our March meeting will be at Clarkston Red Knapps 6722 Dixie Hwy, Clarkston MI (Dixie just west of M-15 (Main St).  Guest speakers include:

February 2012 Events

  • The next NODC meeting will be Wednesday February 15, 6:30 – 8:30 pm at the Clansman Gaelic Pub (a.k.a. C-Pub) in Canterbury Village, 2369 Joslyn Ct, Lake Orion, Mi

Guest speakers include: Mark Bernstein for U of M Board of Regents; Kevin Howley for Oakland County Executive; and Jane Boudreau for Oakland County Sheriff.

Please bring canned and packaged food for the Oxford/Orion FISH Food Pantry.

2012 membership is now due, please join or renew your calendar year membership.

 

  • Tues. Feb. 28 from 7 am to 8 pm is the Michigan Presidential Primary, the Michigan Democratic Party (MDP) is now encouraging voters to participate in this event, even though the results will not be used in the allocation of Michigan delegates for the National Convention Sept 4-6 in Charlotte, North Carolina.  The will have a Presidential Caucus on Sat. May 5th, which will be used for the allocation of delegates.  Please follow this link to see the MDP announcement.

    • Special Guest Speaker Brenda Moon, Southfield, MI AFL-CIO national field representative and assistant director of the national AFL-CIO education department to talk about pending Right to Work (RTW) legislation in Michigan. Brenda Moon was also candidate for Wayne State University Board of Governors in 2010.
    • Peggy Garrigues will present for Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project http://climaterealityproject.org/
    • Bruce Fealk will speak to our group about ALEC – American Legislative Exchange Council. This group writes “model legislation” for issues like immigration, RTW, health care, etc. and they are funded by people like the Koch brothers.

    • In light of Jack Abramoff’s recently published book, we will show the documentary “Casino Jack and the United States of Money”. It should be a great evening. Please feel free to bring a snack or dessert to share.
