Sat. June 2 – MDP Congressional District Conventions – Registration 9 a.m., Convention begins 10 a.m.

At the conventions, voters will select delegates and alternates to the National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.

  • 8th District – East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Rd, East Lansing, MI 48823
  • 9th District – Troy Historic Village, 60 W. Wattles Rd. (at Livernois, in the Church Building), Troy, MI 48098

Wed. June 20,  Monthly meeting will be at the Clarkston Union (M/C Room downstairs), 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm

  • Lynnette Teller, MEA Public Affairs Council member and MEA/NEA delegate will discuss educational issues, particularly public education and the work of the MEA Public Affairs Council
  • LuAnn Kozma from “Ban Michigan Fracking” will talking about Induced hydraulic fracturing or hydrofracking, commonly known as fracking in Michigan, with a focus on Oakland County.

Sun., June 24, 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm Oakland County Democratic Party 52nd Annual Phillip A. Hart Dinner at the Somerset Inn, Somerset Ballroom

Aug 3 – Primary! Congratulations to Virg Bernero, who won all jurisdictions in the North Oakland Democratic Club area!  Congratulations to Casandra Ulbrich (Senate Dist. 12), Pam Jackson (Senate Dist. 15), and Paula Zelenko (Senate Dist. 26) for winning their contested primary!  David Lillis (House Dist. 46), and Phil Frabrizio (House Dist. 44) both won their uncontested primaries, as did Mark Venie (County Commissioner Dist 2), John Bingham, Jr (County Commissioner Dist 3), and Phil Reid (County Commissioner Dist 4).  Ken Christie lost in his primary bid for County Commissioner Dist 1 to Ken Quisenberry.   Lance Enderle received 10% of the write-in votes against Kande Ngalamulume, who has quit the race for 8th District Congress for the second time.   Congratulations to Dana Margaret Hathaway for making it to the November election for Probate Court (Nonpartisan)!

Aug. 7  Sat. 10 am to 5 pm NODC will participate in the Celebrate Oxford Business Expo.  It is located on E. Burdick at Washington St in Oxford.  Stop by and say hi, or join us behind the table for our outreach to the community in Oxford.

Aug. 7  Sat. 2 pm to 5 pm Oakland County Democratic Party (OCDP) 2nd Annual Obama Birthday Bash in Troy at Firefighters Park, 1800 W Square Lake Rd. Join the OCDP for their annual summer picnic to celebrate President Obama’s birthday.  Fun, games, food and Democrats. $20 contribution per person.

Aug. 10 Tues. 7 pm to 9 pm – Monthly OCDP Executive Committee Meeting.  Commissioners Auditorium, 1200 N Telegraph Rd, Pontiac, MI

Aug. 12 Thurs. 6 pm to 8 pm Fundraiser for Mike McGuinness and Phil Reid at the home of Shelley Hirth, 7140 Dark Lake Dr, Clarkston, MI 48346 (for information contact the Oakland County Democratic Party 248-584-0510.

Aug. 14 Sat. 9 am to noon – Oakland 8th District Convention at the Oakland County Commissioners Auditorium (Pernick – Aaron Conference Room).  Registration 9 am to 10 am, meeting from 10 am to noon.  The Convention will vote on submitted resolutions for the MDP Convention, and will receive candidates that wish to meet with our group.  You must be a member of the MDP to vote at this meeting.  Elected precinct delegates can renew their membership the day of the convention.  Example of resolutions can be found at the MDP web site http://michigandems.com/content/resolutions.php

Aug 21, Sat. 4 pm to 9 pm, NODC Summer Picnic Fundraiser at the home of Fred and Nancy Miller 875 N Baldwin Rd, Oxford, MI (Brandon).  Food, fun, candidates, music!  Adults $10 each, Children under 18 $5.00  Five acres of fun and frolic!  Please bring a dish to pass, NODC will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, soft drinks and water.

Aug 28 Sat. 8 am to 6 pm,  Aug 29 Sun 8 am to 6 pm – MDP Nominating Convention – Agenda http://www.michigandems.com/2010nominatingconventionagenda.pdf - You must be a member of the MDP as of July 30 to vote, unless you were on the Aug. 3 primary ballot.  ( including precinct delegates!)

February Meeting, Orion Library, CWRC, MDP

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Our next meeting will be Thursday, February 26th, 7 PM at the Orion Twp Public Library, 825 Joslyn Rd, Lake Orion, MI

At this meeting, we will be organizing committee structure and deciding on projects for the upcoming year. Please come and contribute!

We also hope to see Dan Keifer from the Clinton River Watershed Council (CWRC) to speak to our group about current Great Lakes policy initiatives.

The Michigan Democratic Party State Convention is Saturday, February 21, from 8 AM to 5 PM at Cobo Hall in Detroit.
