Please join us as we discuss activism, politics, and how clubs like the North Oakland Democratic Club fit in to the party as a whole. North Oakland Indivisible Team, Forward Action Michigan, and aligned groups welcome!

Guest Speakers:  Nancy Kaffer, Detroit Free Press Columnist; Vicki Barnett, Oakland County Democratic Party Chair; Brandon Dillon, Michigan Democratic Party Chair

Sat. Feb. 11 8 a.m – 5 pm – Michigan Democratic Party State Convention, Cobo Center, 1 Washington Blvd, Detroit, MI 48226

Election of 2017-2018 MDP Members, Congressional District Officers, Michigan Democratic State Central Committee members, Caucus officers.  You must have been a member of the MDP 30 days prior to this convention (unless you were elected Precinct Delegate in 2016).

  • Tues. April 14, 7:00 pm – 8:45 pm  Oakland County Democratic Party Executive Committee – Oak Park Community Center 14300 Oak Park Blvd, Oak Park, MI 48237 Guest speakers include radio host Tony Trupiano (Proposal 1) and Jill Alper (Dewey Square) DNC feedback on 2014 campaign messaging.
  • Wed. April 15, 6:30 pm – 8:45 pm – North Oakland Democratic Club Monthly Meeting at Clarkston Union Bar & Kitchen 54 S Main St. Clarkston, MI 48346.  – Political Discourse Night – we will be having a conversation on a number of topics, including the Proposal 1 Special Election.
  • Sat. April 18 10:00 am – 11:30 am – NODC Adopt-A-Road pickup on Brown Rd between Joslyn Rd and Baldwin Rd.  We meet at the Costco Parking lot (400 Brown Rd).  Safety vests, bags, and “picking sticks” provided.  Please bring work gloves and wear sturdy shoes.

  • Invited Speakers:  Andy Meisner – Oakland County Treasurer, John Stilley – Chair, Waterford Democratic Club
  • We will be electing officers for the 2015 – 2016 cycle for the North Oakland Democratic Club.  The NODC Nominating Committee has recommended Phil Reid – Chair, Francine Melotti – Vice Chair, Kevin Church – Treasurer.  No recommendation at this time for Secretary.
  • We will elect members to the NODC Executive Committee at our February 18 meeting.  If you would like to participate as a member of the Executive Committee, please contact Phil Reid at 248-922-9203 (
  • Please bring packaged and canned foods for Oxford/Orion FISH (please check that “sell by” date  has not been exceeded).  January Pantry Wish List:  jelly and jam, vegetable soup, chili, mandarin oranges, whole or stewed tomatoes, pasta or rice sides, cereal.

  • Our guest speakers are State Rep. Dist. 27 Ellen Cogen Lipton who will speak on the issues related to the Educational Achievement Authority (EAA)
  • Susan Grettenberger, Social Work Program Director at Central Michigan University and candidate for Congress, MI-8, who is seeking to challenge Rep. Mike Rogers in 2014
  • Rick Pluta, Reporter / Producer – Michigan Public Radio Network.  His beats include the Legislature and courts, as well as environmental and legal issues. Pluta has covered the Michigan Capitol since 1987.
  • You can file for Precinct Delegate, we will have a Notary Public available to notarize your Affidavit of Identity, which must be filed with the Oakland County Clerk – Elections Division
  • Now is the time to renew your membership or join the North Oakland Democratic Club (membership form)
  • We will have nominating petitions for Governor, U.S. Senate, Congress, and petitions to Raise the Minimum Wage.
  • Please bring canned or packaged food donations to our meeting for the Oxford/Orion FISH Food Pantry (please no expired food as it can’t be accepted)

    • Our guest Speakers will be Mark Schauer, Democratic candidate for Governor;
    • Also speaking will be Kurt Metzger, Director Emeritus, Data Driven Detroit  and;
    • Ken Darga, recently retired State Demographer and candidate for Congress, 8th District
      • Kurt Metzger and Ken Darga have been invited to talk about demographic trends in SE Michigan and statewide
    • We will have nominating petitions on hand for Mark Schauer and Gary Peters
