September 2013 Events

There are a a number of events that the North Oakland Democratic Club will participate in in September.

  • With the approach of the Michigan expansion of Medicaid, a Michigan health care exchange, and enrollment for health care plans relating to the Affordable Healthcare Act, the NODC has invited a speaker from the Michigan AARP, Steven Hernandez from Michigan Consumers for Healthcare and possibly another speaker (to be announced) to provide an update.  We will meet Thurs. Sept 19th at Red Knapp’s American Grille 6722 Dixie Hwy., Clarkston, 48346  6:30 pm – 8:30 pm  As always, please bring canned and packaged food for the Oxford/Orion FISH Food Pantry – the need for food support has only grown larger in North Oakland County

Sept.15, 6:00 pm at Club Venetian 29310 John R Road  Madison Heights, MI 48071 Click here for tickets. Please let me know if you are making plans to attend and would like to sit at our table.

  • Sun. Sept 15, noon to 5 pm Please drop by the NODC canopy at Taste of Clarkston. We will be with exhibitors in the parking lot on N Main St, at W. Washington St.

  • Sat. Sept 21, 8:30 am to 10:30 am.  Please join us for our September Adopt-A-Road pick-up on Brown Rd between Joslyn Rd and Baldwin Rd.  Meet us in the northeast corner of the Costco parking lot (400 Brown Rd) .  Bring work gloves and sturdy shoes, we will provide the safety vests, bags, and picking sticks

  • Sat. Sept. 28, 10 am to 5 pm.  Please drop by the NODC canopy at Septemberfest in Ortonville. We will be on South St, above Mill St.

  • Fri. Aug 3, 4:00 pm  Deadline to file with your township clerk as a Precinct Delegate Write-In Candidate


  • Tues. Aug 7 – Michigan Primary
  • Sat. Aug 18  11 am to 1:00 pm – The “Oakland 8th District” County Convention will be held at the C-Pub (a.k.a. Clansman Gaelic Pub) at Canterbury village, 2325 Joslyn Rd, Lake Orion, MI 48360
    • We will be in the meeting room upstairs from the main floor.
    •  Credentials from 11:00 am to 11:45 am
    • Convention from noon to 1 pm
    •  We will elect 1 female delegate to the Credentials Committee and 1 male alternate to the Platform and Resolution Committee (see details below).
    • We will also discuss and approve any resolutions submitted to the committee (please submit any potential resolutions in advance to Phil Reid


    County  conventions will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2012 in preparation for the MDP State Convention on Sun. Sep. 9th at the Lansing Center

  • Sat. Aug. 18 4:00 pm to 8:30 pm NODC Picnic at the home and property of Fred and Nancy Miller 875 N Baldwin Rd , Oxford, Mi 48371 Cost per person $10 each, $20 per family.  Hamburgers, hot dogs and soda pop and water provided.
  • This is an opportunity to meet candidates and have fun with our great club members!

July 2012 Events

Join us for the Parade!
Wed. July 4th, 9:00 am to noon – Clarkston Independence Day parade.   Please join us as we walk again in this year’s 4th of July parade in Clarkston. 
We will begin at St. Daniel Church parking lot (Miller St at Holcomb).  The parade begins at 10 a.m., and ends before noon at Clarkston Community Ed. parking lot (parade is about 1 mile long).  The best bet is to park where the parade ends (where there is plenty of parking) and walk
to where the parade begins (where there is no parking).  We need help with banners, signs, and handing out candy.

Sat. July 14, 8:30 am to 10:30 am NODC Adopt-A-Road pickup on Brown Rd, between Joslyn and Baldwin in Lake Orion.
We will meet at the Costco parking lot (400 Brown Rd), and will likely stop someplace for brunch afterward.
More hands make the work go faster!  Please bring a pair of work gloves and sturdy shoes for this activity.
We will have safety vests, “picking” sticks and trash bags.
Wed. July 18, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm – NODC  July meeting at C-Pub (a.k.a. Clansman Gaelic Pub) at Canterbury Village 2369 Joslyn Court Lake Orion, MI 48360.
We will have candidates for Oakland County Circuit Court and Dan Sargent, who is running to replace Brad Jacobsen for MI House District 46.

    •  Oakland County Parks & Rec. Director Dan Stencil, and Oakland County Commissioner Gary McGillivary to provide an update regarding Oakland County Parks.
    • Lance Enderle on his campaign for Congress
    • Also, we have invited a small business owner Rick Galbraith from Castacios from North Oakland County to speak to our group.
    • Melissa Bernardi will provide an update for OFA.
  • Please bring canned and packaged foods for our ongoing donation to the Oxford/Orion FISH Food Pantry.

  • NODC at Septemberfest – Ortonville, MI Sat. Sept. 24, 10 am to 5 pm This one-day family event takes place in downtown Ortonville, and admission is free! Children and adults of all ages will enjoy live music and stage entertainment, magic shows, contests, a pet parade, inflatable attractions, over 100 vendors, great food, and the Ted Baker Memorial Car Show.
    Free parking will be available at Brandon Fletcher Intermediate School, and free shuttle bus service will run back and forth from the parking lot to downtown Ortonville throughout the day.  Drop by our booth on South St, near Mill St. and say hello!
  • NODC at Taste of Clarkston – Clarkston, MI  Sun. Sept. 25, Noon to 6 PM  Join the NODC as we greet visitors at our canopy on W. Washington St @ Main St.
    – TASTE TICKETS are available on site in $1 increments.  Buy what you need at the event  (We suggest easy pack of $10 to get started)  FREE parking at school lots Park at Clarkston Elementary, Clarkston Junior High School, Renaissance HS or Clarkston HS.  FREE Shuttle Bus

September 6, Clarkston, MI 48346 Birthday Party and Fundraiser for Casandra Ulbrich noon to 2 pm.  At the home of Shelley Hirth, 7140 Dark Lake Dr – only a few blocks from where the Labor Day Parade ends!  Suggested donation is $25.

September 25, Septemberfest, Ortonville, MI 48462  10 AM to 5 PM, South St, and Mill St.  The NODC will be supporting our Democratic Party candidates, including Paula Zelenko for State Senate (Dist. 26)

September 26, Taste of Clarkston, W Washington St at S. Main St, Clarkston, MI 48346  noon – 6 PM – This is a huge event, typically 10,000 people show up on Main St!  Join us as we support our Democratic Party candidates!
